The Global Science Film Festival brings together social developments, art, and science. In 2026, the festival will take place in Bern, Zurich, and Basel. In Bern, the mLAB at the Department of Geography at the University of Bern will present its own mini-festival featuring a program of short films and a discussion.

To coincide with the University of Bern’s exhibition “Atlas of Reproduction - Babies, Borders, Geopolitics” at the Kornhausforum (through Oct. 25, 2026), this year’s edition of the Bern Festival focuses on the social, political, and historical contexts of reproductive decisions.
From fiction and dark humor to documentary works, filmmakers explore topics such as abortion, medical care, motherhood, and care work from various cinematic perspectives in short films.
The opening program features two short films from the Swiss
Science Film Academy’s Filmmaking Marathon, in which researchers and filmmakers collaborate to bring scientific topics to life on screen.

The Bern edition of the Global Science Film Festival is supported by the University of Bern. It’s organized by the Swiss Science Film Academy and the mLAB. Other partners of the festival include the University of Zurich, the Graduate Centre of the University of Basel, Life Science Zurich, WSL and EAWAG.
